If you’ve been dreaming of buying a new home or building your own home, right in an urban area, then the Salt District is perfect for you. Along with all of the rehabs going on in the community, it is also ripe for new development. This summer HHQ will be starting several new home constructions that may be what you are looking for. Or if you prefer, there are plenty of lots throughout the community that might suit your needs to build your own custom home.
In the spring and summer of 2009, HHQ and the Syracuse University School of Architecture worked together to build the first new home the neighborhood had seen for some time. The home, constructed off site, in modular fashion, was then assembled on site to create a spectacular, new, energy efficient home.
In this video Hilary Mansur, a 5th year architecture student, tells us about the modular house being erected on Syracuse Near West that she, several other students and faculty designed from the Syracuse University School of Architecture. Also meet the new homeowner, Karaline Carr who will be living at this house at 521 Tully Street, Syracuse.
